Also, President Obama is correct that the bills do not mention Abortion. What they don't say is unless specifically excluded, any procedure will be covered. That means that every hospital will have to provide abortions to anyone who wants one. If they refuse, they will not be permitted to receive anyone under the government coverage. Since in a single payer system, the government is the only game in town, this means the hospital will either cave in or go out of business.
The figure of 45 million people who are not covered has been used by all government people who are proposing this bill. It seems to me that the issue is not necessarily a health care issue, rather it is a jobs issue. The huge loss of jobs in this country has had a huge impact on coverage as laid off people lose their health care.
So what can we do?
The republicans should next month make the following proposals.
- Stop trying to make only one bill to fix everything
- Remove state barriers to offering health care. Allows up to 1600 health care companies to bid for your business.
- Tort reform to limit awards will limit excessive tests
- Remember what insurance is: spreading risk. Encourage competition
- With regard to pre-existing conditions: Encourage coverage with perhaps higher copay or higher cost additional coverage.
Present this as unified republicans. This will not only correct perceptions that Republications is the party of NO, but help set up wins for the republicans in the next election.
These bills must be stopped. We need to reverse the trend to Socialism and Fascism.
